Re: ThinkPad X series shipping thread - 2018 edition

Hi Lenovo,

I have ordered x1 carvca on 16th July and got a delivery date of 26th July but after 2-3 days it was changed to 16th August, then I decided to cancel the order and did that on 19th. On 20th I got a confirmation email about the successful cancellation of the order. Now from then till today I have not received my money back. I paid via PayPal and when I contacted Lenovo customer care executives they always providing the wrong information. One executive said the Authorisation on your oayoaP will fall within 2-3 days after the cancellation and other executive said it'll take 5-6 days and yesterday one of the executive said the authorisation is going to fall in next one hour and so far nothing happened. They also told me to contact PayPal, i contacted them and they said, Lenovo has not yet cancelled the authorisation and due to that itsi still there.

Now I caontqcon them again and now Lenovo said it'll take 14-15 daya. This is crazy. Anyone here can help me getting my money back?. Please help me.

Regards,

Anas

I don't care much for the trackpoint. I love thinkpads in general but my Yoga S1 is literally running on fumes. I love the fact that the keyboard is splash-proof which the Matebook Pro X has. Also the price point is $1349 for 8550, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD M.2 and the display makes it a very attractive option.

The bezel and look are second to none. I must admit.

I ordered a maxed-out CTO X1 Carbon 6th Gen with WWAN (Fibocom L850-GL 4G LTE-A Cat 9 Module) and the ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Adapter Gen 2 on 7/27/2018. No additional software or accessories were ordered with it. The website advertised shipment in “7-9 business days”. That would translate to shipment by 8/9/2018. However, the OVP “Expected to Ship” date is 8/15/2018 (13 business days). From what I have been reading here, I can consider myself lucky if it ships on 8/15/2018.

OVP showed a August 1 ship date but changed to August 23 all of a sudden. Trust me they are selling a lot. These prices are unbeatable. Also many back to school orders are coming in. You may think students generally don’t get “business laptops” but I used different thinkpads during my school days.

It it was only after I picked up a MacBook because I thought I was now more a consumer of media after school. But some of us don’t want to switch to consumer grade laptops.

Today OVP changed the "Expected to Ship" date to from 8/15/2018 to 08/20/2018. As a result, the "Expected to Arrive" date was pushed back to 08/27/2017 --31 days from the "Ordered" date. I know that this is a recurring theme here, but the shipping delays have a significant negative impact on the Lenovo.com purchasing experience. The X1 Carbon 6th Gen is the laptop I want, but I am already looking for alternatives if the estimated delivery date is pushed back any further.

That is a dramatic change. What did you order?

A 8650u with the Dolby vision screen. Everything else is standard.

I havent ordered anything custom outside of Lenovo/IBM for a decade so I don’t know if 2-4 week lead time is normal for custom builds.

I don’t know if Dell or HP do better on custom build timing.

As it stands Lenovo has a unique product. They know that Thinkpad users tend to stick with Thinkpads.

Placed an order on July 15. Shipping date moved from 08/11 to 08/07 yesterday. Estimated delivery date is 08/14. I got the 8650u, 16GB, 512GB SSD and 500 nit display. Pretty close I'd say. My Thinkpad Yoga is haunted (keeps typing "6" all the time) and I run my T440s over with my car. Come on Lenovo ship the **bleep** laptop already.

I don’t know how to edit. So this is a continuation.

Secondly they have blow out pricing going on right now. They know that people who are intent on picking up an X1 carbon can’t beat that price on their unique offering.

Thirdly, since I’ve configured options that only they offer such as the DV screen that I can’t get that anywhere else. Same thing happened when I ordered the OLED X1 Yoga 2 years ago.

It’s not intentional I think their production and logistics can’t handle the kind of influx of orders that these prices will yield them.

The real problem is the promised delivery time. But in today’s Amazon driven 2 day delivery culture we really are driven by instant gratification. Frankly I would not have placed the order if they told me the true ship date while ordering. So I guess they got an order they otherwise wouldn’t have.

They could have kept prices higher to tamp down demand to what their production could handle and then later dropped them as demand slowly is satisfied but I suppose this was their way to capitalize on the back to school buying season.

I’ve threatened to buy something else many times with Lenovo’s purchasing experience and even their service at times. At the end of the day, for me, it hasn’t been very fruitful buying something else. I didn’t like any MacBook I bought. I didn’t like the Matebook X it was just a MacBook running windows with a worse trackpad than actual MacBooks.

I saw the Samsung 9 and the LG gram. They feel really cheap. It was a significant downgrade in my mind. I loved the XPS13 I saw but really it’s too heavy.

For those who haven’t used anything else I would admit that now is best time ever to try something else. HP, Dell and Huawei are making some excellent laptops and Thinkpads are not as unique as they used to be.

However for me, I’ve learned to deal with Lenovo’s quirks. Service also has been really hit or miss. This time I took the NBD upgrade. I think it is worth it. Depot is really bad these days.

Because the Thinkpad sticker fell off the top of the machine (yes it’s a cheap sticker) they apparently need me to ship it in and they need to replace the whole top panel with a new one under my accidental damage protection. I just need a sticker. What if I didn’t have accidental damage protection?
