Re: ThinkPad X series shipping thread - 2019 edition

as of 10pm (GMT+8) yesterday (30th july) my X390 Yoga left Kunshan. That is 9 days after my customised order, a few hiccups (see my previous reply) here and there, but completely acceptable. My online sales rep was instrumental, he did actually seem interested in solving the issues.

Must be something going on with UHD display stock affecting X1C7 availability.  Was quoted at my doorstep in four weeks from this Monday, but now the order status page is showing mid-October??  Thinking of canceling and picking up a X1Y4 or a competitor instead.

B&H Photo has certain models of the Carbon and Yoga in stock as of yesterday. They have the X1 Yoga i7 with the UHD screen ready to ship.   I wish Lenovo would ship mine!

Bought a customized X1c during BF event on 7/15, got an email telling me it's dalayed on 7/24. Finally shipped today (8/2), which is 5 days ahead of the estimation. What unusual about my shipment is that it came from Hefei, China rather than Kunshan. Currently it's clearing the customs.

Just a quick status report to write something positive:

I've received my X1E yesterday (8/2), from Kunshan to Germany. All in all the delivery took about a week, so it was pretty quick considering the distance. Maybe it is a coincidence, but they exactly hit the delivery date they sat directyl after my order before the delays.

To the device itself, it's a pretty fine machine. I ordered with 512GB SSD and 8GB ram and upgraded it to a 32GB kit and added a 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus. 7 screws later the upgrade was done, so they did a really good job on the case there. I've tinkered around with bios settings, somehow got a black screen after booting and couldn't do anything and was afraid I bricked it, but removing the cmos- and normal battery got me running again. I suspect that 'Thunderbolt assisted boot'-option, so be careful with that. Also undervolting really makes a difference, I have the 8850H version and -0.165V runs stable (at least during a few Cinebench R20 runs and a bit of gaming, will try Prime95 today) and the temperatures are much better and the CPU boosts notably longer.

The thunderbolt 3 workstation dock also seems to work fine despite some laggy display performance I encountered yesterday. It somehow vanished, but I'll keep an eye on that. Probably a software problem, though.

TL;DR: All in all (despite my worst fears) it was a pleasant experience. If Lenovo had kept that delay-mails to themselves  I wouldn't have noticed it, the delivery was even earlier than initlally anounced.

Re: ThinkPad X series shipping thread - 2019 edition

Ordered a customized X1C7 two days ago (USA).  The order page said "4-5 weeks".

After I placed my order, minutes later, I received an order confirmation email.  The email has a link to Order Status.  That link didn't work for hours, and finally, maybe 6 or so hours later, the link worked.  The linked Lenovo order status page said my X1C7 will be delivered October 16th -- fully double the 5-week time frame they said it would take!

This is really unconscionable and a form of bait and switch.

I then called the 800 number sales person I ordered this through.  His reply was that several days later, the delivery date would likely change and it would change to approximate the original 5-week delivery date.  Of course, I'm taking what he says with a grain of salt as it certainly appears like he's just pulling these delivery dates out of thin air!  He has nothing to base his speculation on besides counting on good luck, and that it might have happened from time to time before.

Lenovo's delivery dates are really out of control.  How can they say early September (~September 8th) and then immediately after order placement, change the delivery date to October 16th?

Terrible way of conducting business.

so very strange that it would indicate 4 weeks for delivery date and then, merely 4 days after you placed your order, it was shipped out!  that is a huge difference in time frame!

i wonder why they are so poor in estimating production time?

i think the hold up is the UHD screen.  when i select any other screen option, the wait time is much less.

I will have my x1 carbon Friday according to USP :). So that's exactly 1 week from when I ordered it.
