Re: ThinkPad X series shipping thread - 2019 edition

2019-09-04, 18:57 PM

I ordered a customized X1EG2 on 8/18. Initial estimate for receiption during order/configuratioon was sometime within the first week or two weeks of September (I think maybe 9/6?)  But after order was finalized, the dates were quickly adjusted to estimates of 9/16 for shipping and 9/20 for delivery.

I understand problems with supply chain logistics that may be out of your control (such as Intel chip supply), but I was not happy that the estimates at time of purchasing/configuration are clearly known to not be accurate (dates immediatley change post order). But... I think I can continue to wait.

Here is my customized config...

Intel® Core™ i7-9750H

Windows 10 Pro 64

32GB (16GB + 16GB) DDR4 2666MHz

512GB Solid State Drive, M.2 PCIe-NVMe, Opal

15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) 500 nits

RJ45 Extension Connector

Estimated shipping and delivery dates have slightly improved to 9/12 and 9/18 respectively.

Ordered an X1 Yoga 4th Gen - one of the stock ones and it shipped quick enough.

Got the package and it was some IdeaPad so totally wrong laptop.

Trying it again and I'll see what I get.

@8bit_barbarian:  that's incredible that you would receive a completely different laptop!

how can that happen?

don't they scan products so it would be virtually impossible to put the wrong product into the wrong box with the incorrect address label?  unless during a switchover, either in staff turnover, shift change, or when some conveyor belt broke down and the restarting caused issues for a certain number of shipments!

very odd and disappointing.

The box label was for what was inside (not an X1 Yoga).  The box itself looks like it had been shipped around with several UPS labels stuck on top of each other, another RMA number on the box that had been crossed out, and barely closed hanging on by just a lenovo circular sticker.

I repacked it much better and shored up the edges of the box with some good shipping tape before sending the wrong one back this morning.

Laptop finally shipped 9/3 after I spoke with Lenovo NC and they agreed to provide a rebate due to the amount of daily delays. Now I'm stuck in customs hell I think?

How many import scans is this package going to receive? It was supposed to be delivered yesterday (9/9), but now UPS says a delivery for today (9/10) that I doubt they will make.

Ugh.

I noticed over the weekend that the shipping date had moved up again to Monday 9/9. And it did ship yesterday. ETA (via UPS) is this Friday 9/13. I am happy that updated dates are in my favor. :)

2nd time worked and I got the X1Y4 I originally ordered.

Soooo much nicer unboxing experience this time and I appreciate the extra details of the packaging.

I haven't gotten confirmation of delivery for the wrong laptop I shipped back.  I suppose that could still be some drama.

Otherwise I'm happily on to the learning curve of my elegant new computing machine!
