ThinkPad X1 Carbon (1st gen.): is Samsung 840 EVO mSATA compatible?

2014-10-02, 9:09 AM

Hi there,

I have a first-generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3444-F9U) and I'd like to replace its 128GB SSD.

Does anyone know if the 1TB Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD is compatible with this laptop?

Thanks!

Hi,

no:
x1c gen1 utilizes Small Form Factor (SFF) SSD, 22x80 mm, less then 3 mm in thickness;
msata SSD is another form factor, 30x50 (52mm), about 5 mm in thickness, has another connector. Even if you'll find adapter "msata SSD to SFF" I don't think it might be fitted.

It could be better to use m.2 SSD 22x60 mm with appropriate adapter "m.2 to SFF" and trik, there is a such successfull expirience on the forum.

Dear X220forMe

I was trying to search for a successful examples of someone from the forum who got the connector from m.2 to SFF, do you mind to show me the thread?

i cound't find it, only saw some posting about getting it from amazon.

I m using the x1c (1st gen) with 256GB, looking to upgrade to 512GB by using the connector. (if it works).

But so far seems my chance is very very slim of getting it done!

appreciate your feedback.

Thanks.
