Re:ThinkPad X1 Extreme not charging

2020-05-25, 21:07 PM

Hi, I had the same problem: X1 Extreme (1st gen) plugged in, not charging, battery at 9%, charging LED was not turning on. I just shut down the computer, pressed the hard reset button for 10 secs, waited a while and then plugged it back on and the LED lighted up again. Thanks for the solution.

Created an account to say thanks to Ater.  That worked for me and my X1 Yoga 3rd Gen.

Hi,

My charging was stuck in battery level 15%. I didn't dare to let it emty completly.

What I did was:

1, Normal Windows ShutDown, wait for it to finish

2, Unplug power cord

3, Press power button for 30+ sec (Lenovo logo showed up for a secound in the begining.), release the button

4, Plug power

5, Press power button again, now shortly (Normal power on)

6, Log in, charging has started.

Regards

Ater

This fixed my problem. I tried inserting a pin in the Reset button underneath but that made no difference. This worked the first time.

Thanks!!!

Re:ThinkPad X1 Extreme not charging

I just had the issue when the charging light went off and the battery won't charge after plugging in the adapter.

What I did:

  • reboot and enter the BIOS by pressing ENTER

  • disable the battery via BIOS settings -> the system will shut down for the service purposes

  • plugin and hit the power button

  • the charging light is on again and charging has started!

Thanks for the suggestions in this thread!

I have the same problem and none of the solutions helped, unfortunately. Disabling the battery didn't work even once. Resetting with long-pressed power button didn't help either. I updated all the drivers and BIOS through Lenovo Vantage.

Are there any other solutions?

Re:ThinkPad X1 Extreme not charging

This is my very first post in the forum, but I have been reading yours for like 10 years. Nice meeting you all!

I am using an x1 extreme gen 3. In the beginning the usb c charge good, it does have a warning in win 10 battry icon saying Slow charger. It is fine, USB-C PD can deliver 100Watt max, this machine power supply is rated 135Watt.

After a few months USB C stopped charging. I updated driver, still same. Then I tried the Disable Built-in Battery in BIOS method, it works. Note: When you try this, unplug all power supplies, neither the 135W or USB-C, unplug them.

But a few days it came back. I don't want to go BIOS again, so i tried something else. What I did is unplug USB C, reboot the computer. After it was booted up, then plug in the USB C charger. To my surprise, it works again.

I haven't witnessed the Not Charging problem again, once I encounter one more time, I will try unplug the reboot method again. Will update to all of you here if it works.

This worked for me, I was stuck in 2%,

Went to the Bios, disabled the internal Battery -> it will shut down the laptop

Plugged the cord again

That's it

Everything started charging, as usual, It takes 1.5 hours 'till full charge, says the System, Using Pop OS 20.04

So far, the BIOS battery reset did the trick on my X1E2. Restarted, entered BIOS, unplugged AC, reset battery, waited 30s, plugged in, restarted, and all is well. Let's hope it lasts! Thanks posters.
