Re:ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6: Future Perfect?

I ordered mine at time of first 5G wwan release, full configuration. Was told November shipment, then it was quickly shipped out in a week. But the  laptop has been hold at UPS for 2 weeks, mainly due to Chinese Customs release and US Customs import authorization.

I paid 3000+ but now it was around 2000. Rumor said the price drop and long lead time probably due to the possible expiring of Trump tariff.

Also, it says for customized models, lead time is 2+ months. Have folks found that to be accurate?

Just so you know that BIOS 1.39 was released yesterday (2021-05-26) and fixed all throttling issues for me.

Thanks.  I meant to post that here, just slipped my mind.  (I had an advance look at that BIOS and was hopeful it would sort things.)

Mine is generally fine barring the Intel Display Driver and throttling issues.

If yours is experiencing all these problems, I'd try to get a replacement machine due to DOA - especially with the touch screen issues.

Spotted something in that New BIOS that may be of interest to Linux users - and perhaps Windows users who for one reason or another can't use Modern Standby.  It was my understanding that with S0ix sleep support showing up in the Linux kernel that S3 was deprecated in newer ThinkPads.  Apparently that decision has been reconsidered:

From the new BIOS README:

CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE
  Version 1.39

[Important updates]
  Nothing.

[New functions or enhancements]
- Update ThinkShield secure wipe application.
- Enhanced WMI interface to support new settings to change with Supervisor Password.
- Support New Sleep State for Linux that are not compatible with Suspend-to-Idle.
(Note) Above update will show "Self-Healing BIOS backup progressing ... xx %"
massage on screen during BIOS update process.
(Note) If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 1.39 or higher, it is no
longer able to roll back to the version before 1.39
(Note) If the UEFI BIOS has been updated to version 1.39 or higher, Memory
Training will take approximately 2 minutes after which the system will
reboot. Please wait even though system is kept blank during the Memory
         Training.
.
[Problem fixes]
- Fixed an issue where system performance may down unexpectedly while heavy load
  application is runnning.

Sure enough:

Nice! Also applies to X1 Carbon Gen 9 (X1C9) :-).

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

My touch function on the (formerly) touchscreen died (except that the pen still works) and of course it's under warranty. The support people tried a few things and then decided they needed to send me a new (or refurbished) one. I have 32 GB of memory so it's a rather rare one. So perhaps I will have a few weeks wait, given that it shipped a week after I talked to them. Naturally, it has to go through customs. It's already been almost a week.

FYI, my AC adaptor suddenly stopped working. They sent me a new one, which works, but it was the first time an AC adapter died on me.

I have 3 X1 Yoga's Gen2, Gen 4 and Gen 5 loaded with all the options. My Gen 2 is still awesome and it has the OLED display which I wish was not discontinued. It also has a micro sd and sim card slots and the fan seems to be in the same place as the Gen 6. My Gen 5 is awesome and has the top Wqd** 500nit display  use itt HDR, Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos. It has 16gb RAM, 1TB SSD that flies, wifi6 and a sim card slot which is 5G. It also has Glance which is cool if you look away or someone is behind you the screen goes blurry and the camera shows who's standing behind you, I don't use it.

I don't see enough difference yet to upgrade from Gen 5 to 6.

I am running Windows 11 Beta with zero issues.
