ThinkPad X1 Yoga only charging with OneLink+

2016-12-20, 3:09 AM

Good Morning,

I have a strage problem:

  • When the power adapter is plugged in, the indicator light is orange. The Windows battery symbol in the task bar is animated as charging. When I hover the mouse over it, it says "charging". The Problem is: It isn't charging at all.
  • Now the strage part: If I plug the same cable into my OneLink+ adapter and connect the OneLink with my computer it is actually charging.

The problem could be caused by the ThinkPad BIOS Update - 7 (V.1.21.1.14) I did a few days ago. I'm not sure though and I have no idea how to undo the update.

Configuration:

  • ThinkPad X1 Yoga Type 20FQ, 20FR.
  • Windows 10 Pro (newest version (KB3206632))
  • Ask me, if you need more info.

Odiously neither the power adapter nor the battery are causing the problem.

Kind regards

B.

I have never taken that model apart to examine the battery circuit, but other thinkpads have a 0.5a fuse near the battery connector that passes charging current.  A blown fuse will cause those symptoms.
