ThinkPad X1 carbon disable power internal battery to replace SSD

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/F1-and-F12-don-t-function-at-boot-time/td-p/1...

Dear Experts

I want to change SSD for ThinkPad X1 carbon (windows 10) to a bigger size , I need to disable power for the internal battery first

I tried to follow below (pressing F1) :

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd025206
Select Config -> Power. The Power submenu is displayed.
F1 didn't work for me, I pressed Enter then F1 then Ctrl + S

But I can't get to the Config option ,,,,I am not sure why that is happening ?

Please see the snapshot what i am getting

Thx

Re: ThinkPad X1 carbon disable power internal battery to replace SSD

Welcome to the forum!

Which X1 Carbon Model do you have? You should see a 10 digit TYPE code at the bottom of the laptop, please post it here (do not post the S/N)

To enter the BIOS I'd suggest you to follow these steps:

 • Boot normally to Windows
 • Press the Shift key, keep it pressed and then click on the Windows icon and choose shutdown. Keep holding the shift key
 • Once the X1 is off, turn it on again
 • After seeing the Lenovo or ThinkPad screen, press F1 (or Enter). Do not press Ctrl+S!!!

Once in the BIOS, go to Config/Power/ Disable internal battery

Do you see the Lenovo startup screen? (White letters with red background)

Re: ThinkPad X1 carbon disable power internal battery to replace SSD

Then when the logo appears immediately press Enter or F1, and keep pressing them alternatively... Timing is important  ;-)

And what happens if you press F1 again when that window is displayed?
