ThinkPad X201 keyboard doesnt work because of static electric?

2017-12-03, 23:09 PM

Hello,

to replace palmrest of x201 i removed battery, keyboard, old palmrest and installed new palmrest and then i assembled the keyboard back and the batter. after i am done i started the laptop but i realised some buttons (majority) doesnt work at all. it was working perfectly before i opened inside the laptop. do u think i killed the keyboard with the static electric on my hands? can i recover it or is it permanently death? is there anybody experienced such problem? please i need your advices and helps. new keyboard is really expensive.

thanks and regards

Was the replacement keyboard new or used?  I have never had that sort of problem with static electricity, but I have bought and installed defective keyboards.

hi richk, i replaced palm rest, not keyboard. keyboard is not new, i was using without any problem. what i did is to install new palm rest , removed battery, removed keyboard. after installed new palm rest i plugged keyboard and then without putting screws for keyboard i plugged on the battery and run the laptop to test the fingerprint reader on the palm rest. then many of the keys didnt work on the keyboard.

Sorry.  I read it too fast.

Try assembling with touchpad  unplugged.  A touchpad or touchpad button assembly that sends constant events will interfere with keyboard signals

Then unplug the fingerprint cable.  All the palmrest devices (if any) go through the same USB hub as the keyboard.

I would unplug the keyboard, wipe the contacts and re-plug it.  If I could get my hands on another keyboard, I would try it.  Other than that, I am out of ideas.

I touch them all the time and have never had that problem.
