I got first X240 to our company. I have had serious problems to install drivers into operating system. All Windows updates are up to date, thinkvantage system update has been run numerous times. Unfortunately, I had to install all thinkvantage programs manually as well as drivers. Now there is one particular unknown device listed in device manager. I have downloaded and installed the right Thinpad wlan driver from the drivers section for x240. I have still problems to get wlan controller identified by Windows 7. I have also tried to install those drivers manually. I am starting to wonder that there is something wrong with the drivers or the hardware itself. I have installed around 450+ Lenovo Thinkpads during my career. Any suggestions? Is there known issue with the x240 wlan controller driver?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m really sorry to hear that you had trouble installing wireless LAN card driver for your Lenovo Thinkpad X240.
I would like to thank you for the effort you took to search the same in Lenovo Support Page.
First of all, you need to find the Hardware ID of the device for which you need the drivers.
1. Right click on the device that you need to identify, then choose properties.
2. Once you have the properties Windows Click on the details tab.
3. On the details tab Choose Hardware ID on the Property Drop down box.
Go to PCI DATABASE and enter the DEV value into the device search. Find the matching VEN value from the results and that would be the exact driver you require for your system.
Hope this helps! Post back if you face any difficulties in installing the specified driver.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I had forgotten this method. (maybe too many installations without problems) I will try this solution tomorrow morning. Still, I am wondering what is the reason that Thinkvantage System Update does not work as planned.

Maybe the Think Vantage system update installed is not the latest version. Uninstall it from control panel, reboot and download the latest version from here. Install it and check if it works properly.

I am sorry but I was not able to identify hardware vendor from the hardware ids. It is difficult to know what info should be put into vendor or hardware search in pci database. Could someone please assist me. I have a screenshot of hardware ids of the unknown device in device manager here.
Thanks in advance

I am very pleased now. Thank you for your huge effort mithun. My problem is solved now. Lenovo Community showed real power to solving this issue in couple of days. I have asked help from Lenovo Finland but Lenovo Community was more efficient. In addition, I have informed Lenovo that correct wlan driver is missing from the support site as well as Thinkvantage System Update does not work as planned
Thank you mithun.

We hade the same problem with our new x240 laptops.
Not good when big company like Lenovo have the wrong drivers up on their support page...
But thanks to good forums people.
The Intel Wireless LAN driver in the link worked good

I'm having the same problem, i don't see the wireless drivers in update retriever (latest version) and not on system update 5.03.
also missing from update retriever and system update is hotkey features (especially on screen display).
the machine type we are testing is 20AM.
