ThinkPad X250 Mobile internet question

2016-06-29, 11:20 AM

Hi, my laptop is ThinkPad X250 bought last year. I can see that it has the SIM card slot for installation of SIM card. However, after I purchase a new SIM card and service then I realize that I

cannot get onto the internet with the SIM card. The SIM card should be 3G/4G ready which is not only a sole phone card for calling.

Is it because my model does not support wireless WAN?

What can I do to check if my model can get onto the mobile internet?? I DO NOT mean WiFi

If it does not support mobile internet, why it has a SIM card slot available?? so wired to me

Can I add any extra hardware to make it 3G/4G possible if it does not support originally??

Check under device manager look for 3 network advices 1. Enthernet lan, 2. Wireless and 3. WWAN if it only shows 2 then your laptop is missing a WWAN card so you will have to buy one or the SIM slot won't work.

hi Yes LAN and Wifi only. Missing WWAN

Is it difficult to install ? Does it require qualified technicians to make it or warranty voids?

Is there any officially recommended WWAN card for lenovo laptop

The salesman didn't tell me anything about WWAN when I bought.

if the salesman did not stated any WWAN and box with the laptop says WWAN: NO or WWAN: None then it did not come with one so only way is to open back cover look for empty slot if you find one and you see 2 cables such orange and blue laying at that slot with plastic covers on them then your laptop is ready for WWAN card use but you only need to find a WWAN module that is compatible, idk if it would void the warranty best is to call local lenovo about it they will have answer for you about this.

kennyabcd2011,

what's your laptop MTM code (starts with 20CM or 20CL)? It's needed to ensure laptop is wwan upgradable, i.e.has not only sim card holder and reader factory installed, but wwan antennas set. So, it's no needed to disassemble the laptop at this stage. If the laptop model is CTO, its serial number is needed. Do not share it here.

Anyway, even if the wwan antennas absent, it's possible to purchase and installed them separately.

There are two Lenovo authorized wwan cards for x250, depending on your demands:
- Ericsson N5321, HSPA+/GSM/GPRS/EDGE, GPS, M.2 card, up to 21Mbps. FRU p/n 04W3842
- Sierra Wireless EM7345, LTE/HSPA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE, GPS, M.2 card, up to 100 mbps. FRU 04X6014

As mentioned above, it's possible to install the wwan card yourself.

With Lenovo genuine parts the warranty will not suffer.

Hi all

I'd like to know, how to check if my lenovo laptop x250 supports mobile internet? Under windows 8

Here's public holiday and weekends I have to wait for a few more days before customer service hotline is available.

I am using windows 8 that comes with the laptop.

Hello. According to Lenovo's serial checkup, it should be 20CM. Do you know if it supports mobile internet?

However, neither hotline staff or online chat staff is helpful. They are always unresponsive

Full MTM code is needed, not only machine type 20CM.

Re: ThinkPad X250 Mobile internet question

Aloha!

I’m on an X250 Win10 64-bit using a Norwegian Telenor 4G SIM-card.

Having problems with periodic loss of connection/timeout and reduced speed with LTE on Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G.

Do I really need Sierra software for LTE or GPS?

Current version loaded: 2.21.10890.4498

Firmware: FIH7160_V1.2_WW_01.1528.04

Microsoft driver: 10.0.14393.0

I have no access to the control panel,

and in the Sierra Wireless Folder there is only the M.2 WWAN Firmware Updater Tool.

I thought updating the software could help, but having problems installing Version 2.32.10970.4625 for LTE.

This version does not show in System Update:

http://support.lenovo.com/no/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-X-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-X250/20CM/S06B01/downloads/DS119826

If downloading and installing gtwn03ww.exe file it ends up with error message in dialogue box (in Norwegian):

“Current language is not supported by installation tool. Contact supplier of software pack.”

Same if launching dpinst.exe

Any tips for solving this?

Edvard

WWAN continuing to be unstable and falls out periodically.

Regains connection at times, but hard to troubleshoot.

Have updated SIM-card from operator, APN-settings and tried to install drivers/Software from Lenovo System Update.

Still getting:

Device USB\VID_1199&PID_A001&MI_00\6&c844123&0&0000 requires further installation.

I've never seen the Sierra control panel, only Firmware tool.

Drivers on device show generic Microsoft as mentioned above.

Network settings for EM7345: Disabled selective suspend/power save (no difference).
