ThinkPad X250 - lack of updated Intel Graphics drivers causes issues with video editing software

2020-08-16, 14:08 PM

I own Lenovo ThinkPad X250 laptop (type 20CL). I use Adobe Creative Cloud for my projects, including Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects. Both of these programs are working much slower than they suppose to, since they are recommending Intel Graphics driver version as a baseline version. The current available version on Lenovo support page is This is a version outdated by 7 major versions. Moreover, the update / installation fails due to Custom Driver from Lenovo. Intel team recommends users who own ThinkPad X250, to get in touch with Lenovo.

Where can I get Intel graphics driver for my ThinkPad X250? When will it be available?

Welcome to the forums.  Im confused.  You have a X250 which has a 5th gen intel chip.  According to Intel site Lenovo is current.  I dont think they are 7 version back.  Intel is at 5126 so is Lenovo?  The version you are asking for is for 6th gen chip and newer which you dont have?

It appears Intel just released an updated device driver for the Intel® HD Graphics 5500 integrated graphics processor (IGP) into the fifth generation Intel CPU inside the ThinkPad X250.  It is version, and can be downloaded from Intel's web site at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29804/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-40-?product=80939.

The series of device drivers is for computers with newer IGPs and CPUs (6th-10th generation) and will not work on the older hardware.  The system requirements for Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects are as follows:

  • https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/system-requirements.html

The former recommends a 7th-generation (or newer) Intel CPU for use with the application.
