ThinkPad X280: anyone noticed this detail on the display bezel?

2019-01-11, 1:20 AM

Hi All!

A few minutes ago, while cleaning my X280 noticed that the lower bezel of the display (the part between the Lenovo logo on the left and the X280 lettering on the right) is a lot more flexible than the rest of the bezels. Noticed while cleaning it with a soft cloth with a gentle cleaning solution appropriatefor displays.

The other bezels (side an top) are noticeable more sturdy.

DId anyone noticed this before?

I've seen it on my X240, which is a similar (though by no means identical) machine.

In fact, it concerned me when I swapped out the LCD screen. That portion of the bezel felt almost paper-thin.

However, it's endured a couple of years of reasonably hard travel, so I don't think it should be a source of concern any more.

I believe this is an illusion because the lower part is where the hinges are. When you pressure the middle of the bottom bezel, the hinges stop any other flex/movement so the entire pressure you are applying goes into bending the bezel.
The sides are shorter and thus stiffer. If you hold a top corner and apply pressure there is less deflection there, but if you hold both top corners and pressure the top bezel I think you'll see very similar deflection to the bottom bezel

Hi rmarinheira! thanks for posting in our community.

Are these concern has an affect with the laptop performance? That might how the bezel designed for. It could be flexible on that part since the hinges are near to to avoid damages when you close the lid.

Hi!

Not at all.

My X280 just behaves woderfully. It is by far the best laptop I've ever had and made me forgot my last one ( a MacBook Pro).

Just posted this question to check if this was common to other units, which was confirmed.

Thank you all for your input!
