ThinkVantage System Update not working

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon type 3443 running Win 7 Pro. When I start System Update, I get a splash screen that says System Update 5.  It stays there for about a minute, then just quits.

I just installed the latest version of the Lenovo Solution Center (version 2.6.001) and the same thing happens.

Any ideas??

Many thanks.

- bill.

Re: ThinkVantage System Update not working

Hi Billrosenblatt,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with Lenovo application on your ThinkPad X1Carbon.

  1. Please go to control panel – program & feature option and uninstall Lenovo system update application and restart the system.
  2. Download latest version of ThinkVantage system update utility and install it, this will resolve the issue.

Hope this helps.

Re: ThinkVantage System Update not working

Thanks, I tried this and eventually - after much extra effort - got it to work.

Frankly this software has got problems.

- The new version of System Update would not install.  I found a solution on the forums that involved typing in a command as Administrator to stop a service (which the install utility should have stopped itself).

- System Update supposedly updated the Wi-Fi device driver, but after the last reboot, the Wi-Fi did not work because it had no device driver installed.  I had to search for one manually.

- There were a few other random glitches, such as error dialog boxes with no text that you had to click on in order to get the installation to keep going.

Re: ThinkVantage System Update not working

Hi Billrosenblatt,

Please uninstall all the Lenovo application like Lenovo solution center and Lenovo system update utility and clean the system registry after that check with reinstalling the software, also check if your antivirus is blocking any of the Lenovo application.

Hope this helps.
