1. Lenovo's recovery media has to be created from the computer when it was first shipped to you. There was a recovery partition.

Otherwise, you have to order the recovery media from Lenovo service.

2. Windows 8 key is in the BIOS, once you install the right OS, it will automatically pick it up from the BIOS. You don't need manual activation.

3. The touchscreen model, has gorilla glass over the screen.

100 mb? 28 mb? That is very small. The recovery partition is around 20 gigs or so.

You can't download the recovery media from Lenovo. But if you can get the Windows 8 Pro ISO, it should work with your system.

If you have a corporate SOE for Windows 7 installed, it is very highly likely that nothing from the Windows 8 installation remains on the system, as the original disk partitions would have been blown away in the SOE installation.

You would need to buy the Windows 8 recovery disk set for your X1CT from Lenovo.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Jin Li,

I have a 2014 X1 Carbon Thinkpad.

I cannot see how to create a set of recovery disks for Windows 8.1.

Maybe you could be good enough to make some suggestions for me.

Kind regards,

Barry Waller

Hello.

in my case I had w8Pro OEM and company reinstalled 8.1Ent. Now I want to go back to OEM.

I have recovery partition 350Mb with 90Mb free on it (260Mb total size.

That seems to be a little small for full recovery but maybe I'm wrong.

Can anyone from Lenovo answer this?

My model is X1 Carbon 3460
