Thinkpad X1-Carbon 3rd Gen - Top Lid Replacement

I would like to replace the top lid/lcd cover on my 2015 X1-Carbon, 3rd Gen (20BT), Non-Touch, 1080p.

A couple weeks ago I was able to access a service video at LenovoServiceTraining.com, however I am no longer able to access the videos...it's asking for a username a password.

Does anyone know of a video showing how to replace the top lid on this model?

Thanks so much for your assistance :-)

Re: Thinkpad X1-Carbon 3rd Gen - Top Lid Replacement

I do not know of a video, but the steps for removing the LCD rear cover (non-touch) are listed in the the Hardware Maintenance Manual on page 80.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Hardware Maintenance Manual (Machine types: 20BS and 20BT)

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x1_carbon3_hmm_en_sp40g55065_01.pdf

Removal steps of the LCD rear cover assembly

To replace the LCD rear cover assembly, remove these FRUs in order:

• “1010 Base cover assembly” on page 57

• “1020 Battery” on page 58

• “1030 M.2 solid-state drive” on page 60

• “1040 Wireless LAN card” on page 61

• “1050 Wireless WAN card” on page 61

• “1060 Thermal fan” on page 62

• “1110 System board assembly and coin-cell battery” on page 68

• “1130 LCD unit” on page 71

• “2010 LCD bezel assembly” on page 73

• “2020 LCD panel and LCD cable” on page 74

• “2030 Hinges” on page 75

• “2040 Camera/microphone card” on page 76

• “2050 LED cable assembly” on page 77

• “Removal steps of the antenna kit” on page 78

Note:   Be very careful to take lots of photos during disassembly, and find some method to keep track of the screws, tape, ziplock bags and a fine tip sharpie etc, and be sure to note what screws go where, because while they may all look similar, some are longer than others and some have different threads or heads on the screws.   Putting a long screw in a short hole, or the wrong screw type in certain locations can cause all sorts of damage.    A cheap set of "spudgers" is also a good investment to prevent damaging the case, and can usually be found locally or online

Best of luck,

I don't know, I just get a page not found, so the site may be down, or they have moved or hidden them.   You might try later in the week to see if the site is back up.

Best of luck,

I asked the same question on another post.  A moderator responded that the site was being migrated and will be back.
