Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3rd Generation Fingerprint Manager Pro Issue

Hi,

I've just attained a new Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3rd Generation and have downloaded the 64-bit Fingerprint Manager Pro program from the Lenovo site.

After restarting as required, I've entered my Windows password and get the error message "The device is not connected to the computer. Please insert the authentication device." I've attached an image showing this.

I'm running Windows 8.1.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3rd Generation Fingerprint Manager Pro Issue

Hi Jcho,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Fingerprint sensor which is giving you an error message in your X1 Carbon 3rd Gen

I’ll suggest you to check in Device Manager first under Biometric device whether driver is installed correctly.

After that try to uninstall the Fingerprint Software and reinstall it from here

I hope the above information helped you

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,
Prabhansh

Re: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3rd Generation Fingerprint Manager Pro Issue

Hi Prabhansh,

It seems there is no mention of Biometric Device in the Device Manager.  How do I resolve this?

Thanks

Re: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3rd Generation Fingerprint Manager Pro Issue

Hey again,

If that's the case check in Device manager for Other Devices and also check in BIOS mode Security> I/O port Access > Fingerprint Reader whether it is enabled or not. If its already enabled, renabled it after disabling it first.

And if possible you can share me the snaps of Device Manager.

Do let us know how it goes.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Re: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3rd Generation Fingerprint Manager Pro Issue

It turns out Fingerprint Reader was disabled in BIOS mode! The reader (and Fingerprint Manager Pro) is working fine now.

I didn't take an image of the Device Manager beforehand, but the only difference is now there is a "Biometric devices" option listed. I've attached an image:

Thank you for your help!
