Thinkpad X1 Carbon gen 9 Intel Smart Sound Technology OED issue

2021-04-23, 19:21 PM

Hi guys,

Every time I turn on the laptop I experience a problem with the Intel Smart Sound Technology OED. In device manager it appears with a yellow check mark displayed and in detail shows:

Windows stopped this device because it reported problems. (Code 43)
DSP communication timeout.

Apart from this the sound is very low through the speakers. The Realtek Audio console application does not start and some additional sound devices I have, such as a USB microphone are not recognized.

Browsing the internet I have seen that this is a common problem but I don't know what it depends on. The tricks of updating the driver for a manually called High Definition

Audio Controller leave the laptop without sound. At the moment I just uninstall the device that has the problem and force to recognize new hardware to solve the problem. Everything works fine again after that.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any suggestions on how I can fix the problem?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi!. Drivers ware already updated to last version! :-/

Today is my first time without this issue. Yesterday updated Intel Smart Sound Technology OED driver manually, selecting controllers available in my computer and selecting the same controller. The only one available in the list.

I'm not sure if it's a fix forever... I will see...

Regards,

I have the exact same issue with my X1 Carbon Gen 9. The drivers are simply crashing. This can happen any time. During Teams meetings etc. The computer is compleatly unsable. The system log reports an error with event-ID 387 from IntcOED with no further information. Windows 10, latest drivers. Restart helps every other time but then it just crashes again.

Same for me here, and the Lenovo System update tries to install the same driver everytime from scratch again. Seems to be buggy, pretty annoying, hope Lenovo can fix this issue soon to be able to use my laptop finally

Hi Guys!

It's seem that this was fixed. Three days ago windows update show me an optional driver: Lenovo - System - 10.2.13.0

Now its working ok. No more issue at start up!.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I would live to do more test before setting this as a full solution!

I'm testing if my external Mic is involved.
