Thinkpad X1 Carbon to BenQ monitor using Display Port is not working.

2021-06-06, 7:54 AM

Dear All,

I am having trouble connecting my Lenovo Thinkpad  X1 Carbon (34602D3) connect to an an external monitor BenQ GW2480 monitor using a DP to HDMI cable.

Have also isolated the DP issue by connecting the external monitor to 2 other laptops so it is not the issue with the monitor and the cable.

I have Intel HD Graphics 4000 and have downloaded the Vantage app and have updated all my drivers so they seem to be the latest.

 Quickly browsed through this https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/HT509850.

Can you please help to debug this? Thanks for your time.

Regards

SM

Hello Dattatreya_SM,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version thru the support site?
I suggest that you share the machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK) from the sticker as it would help us detail more about your machine variant.

Update us soon as convenient

Regards,
Lorenzo_Lenovo

Hi Lorenzo_Lenovo,

Thanks for the quick response. Please note the following details:

Serial number: xxxxx

Product number:34602D3
Bios version:G6ET90WW 2.50

I do not have the sticker but I got this from the vantage device details and also verified through

Since I ran vantage it said BIOS is also updated I left it at that. Current BIOS version is:

BIOS Version/Date LENOVO G6ET90WW (2.50 ), 26-12-2012

I checked the product site post your message, I do see the following:

g6uj32us.exe

BIOS Update Utility (Windows) released on

  • 18 Sep 2019 v 2.85

Since Vantage skipped this I want to confirm before a BIOS overwrite. Is this relevant for my Product Number.  Do you want me to install this?

Thanks

I strongly recommend that you go to the support site, enter your computer's serial number.
Then download and install the latest drivers, firmware and BIOS.
Restart the computer and try your external monitor once more.
Update us how it goes

Hi Lorenzo,

I updated the firmware and drivers from the support site. When I try to update the BIOS since my battery is not chargeable, it wouldn't allow me to install BIOS without a battery using the AC power cord.

I tried /forceit and -sp options still the battery error comes in and wouldn't go past.

Thanks

SM

Yes it is not allowed to update BIOS under that battery condition.
