Thinkpad X1 Extreme 3rd gen screen blinks

2021-02-23, 8:59 AM

Hello everyone,

I have problems with the screen of my X1 Extreme 3rd gen. Sometimes the screen blinks all of a sudden; it is just for a fraction of a second. Sometimes it happens 10 times / hour, sometimes not the whole day. I found online that Intel graphics might be responsible for that and that automatic display refreshment should be turned off. This, however, did not solve the problem.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti with Max-Q Design

Bios up to date, Intel and NVIDIA drivers up to date.

Do you have any suggestions? It is really annoying.

Thank you, best regards

Hi jioiomiom,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try rolling the drivers back to a previous version if possible to determine if it's driver related. If unsuccessful, try to completely uninstall the display adapters, then do a hard reset of the device.

Step 1 - Rolling back drivers.
- Press the Windows key + X then select "Device manager"
- Expand "Display Adapters"
- Right click the Display/Video adapter(Intel and/or NVIDIA, AMD) and select "properties"
- Navigate to the "Drivers" tab and select "Roll Back Driver"
- If the button is greyed out, then continue below.

Step 2 - Use Display Driver Uninstaller(DDU).

Download and run DDU, to perform a display driver cleanup on your device.

Step 3 - Uninstall Display Device with drivers and reinstall:
- Press the Windows key + X and select "Device Manager"
- Expand "Display Adapters"
- Right click the AMD, NVIDIA and/or INTEL VGA devices and select "Uninstall"
- If prompted to uninstall drivers associated with the device, tick the box and continue.
- Perform a restart of the laptop. (Hard reset = holding the power button down until the device turns off)

Hope this helps

Regards

Voithos

Hello Voithos,

Thank you for the reply; I tried all those things and reinstalled the drivers, but this did not solve the issue. Do you have other suggestions?

Thank you,

Best regards
