Thinkpad X1 Extreme Keyboard Backlight

2019-01-25, 14:49 PM

Is there a way to set the keyboard backlight to an auto mode?  I have to enable the keyboard backlight everytime I turn on my Thinkpad X1 Extreme, regardless of the ambient light level.

Hi Nakazato1,

Generally it's a "by design" feature in order for power saving. You may found options in Lenovo Settings (if you're on Win10) to disable keyboard backlight, but no "always on" or "auto-on" options.  It applies to all ThinkPad products like Carbon, Yoga or IdeaPad.

Moreover, if you upgraded Lenovo Settings to Lenovo Vantage, the function of "keyboard backlight auto-on base on ambient light level" will be disappeared as well. Check out this thread.

That's why some developer wrote an open source utility to add control on it, named as ThinkPad LEDs Control.

As it's not officially from Lenovo, try at your own risk.
