Re: Thinkpad X1 Extreme: Upgraded BIOS to 1.18 and Thunderbolt ports stopped working

2019-02-23, 7:31 AM

Hi,

I´ve upgraded my Thinkpad X1 Extreme to the latest BIOS (version 1.18) and my thunderbold ports stopped working as well. Did anyone found a solution till yet?

Unfortunately I didn´t found any option on lenovo supports sites to downgrade the bios version to the previous version. Does anyone know a possibility to downgrade the bios?

Thanks,

I tried different ways to fix it, and they all did not work. I was about to send it back to lenovo, and it was fixed on its own....

Try to re-install nvidia drivers. Also Intel chipset driver (from February) that had broken page now downloadable. Try that.

Hi, I´ve already installed the latest Nvidia graphics driver. On the Lenovo Support sites there´re only Intel Chipset drivers (version 10.1.17695.8086) from 21.08.2018. Where did you get the chipset drivers from february this year?

Thanks

I´ve now reinstalled the OS, without success, the Thunderbolt ports still not working. I´ve now raised a service request.

Thanks anyway....

Have you tried turning thunderbolt to "pre-boot" in BIOS  and see if it works on barebones?

Re: Thinkpad X1 Extreme: Upgraded BIOS to 1.18 and Thunderbolt ports stopped working

Hello,

a new BIOS version 1.19 is available since the 1st of march. Unfortunately this new BIOS version don´t solve the issue with the thunderbolt ports not working but as per my conversation with lenovo support in germany, the root cause seems to be a faulty firmware of the thunderbolt D-Dock (Part: AN40), which got updated POST Bios update. I´ve checked my Lenovo Vantage download history and the lenovo support was right. Fortunately there´s a new Thunderbold Firmware (see link below) but I can´t install it onto my dock as my notebook doesn´t show any reaction when I plug the thunderbolt dock on the pc.

Anyone got an idea how to get the update onto the thunderbolt dock with the below firmware?

Did the other users, whose Thunderbolt ports stopped working after 1.18 firmware, also have docks?

Also hoping others here who applied 1.18 firmware can chime in whether they experience any issues with TB ports...
