Betreff: Thinkpad X1 : Mobile Broadband - Does not recognise SIM cards

2011-07-12, 6:21 AM

I am chasing a different issue with 3G SIM card recognition but it does seem to have a few similarities to the one described in this thread, so could I please ask any of those who continue to have an issue with SIM card recognition to try this:

1. Remove the battery for your laptop

2. Remove the SIMM card from its slot

3. Remove the external power cord from your laptop

4. Reinsert the SIM card into its slot.

5. Reattach the external power cord

6. Reattach the battery

7. Reboot the laptop

Then see if the SIM card is recognised (no guarantees that this will change the behaviour you've seen to date - its an experiment). Whatever the result please report it here.

Thanks,

Bill

The units are faulty they need a repair, no sorry they should be replaced with working units from manufacture, but replacing doesn't appear to be an option.

You have to watch your brand new X1 get torn apart.  And when the X1 gets damaged in the process of the repair Lenovo UK don't give a ****.

As you can tell very unhappy customer.

I have exactly this issue. I've updated the BIOS and the installed each of the latest updates, and it hasn't helped. Curiously though, it did work earlier for about a minute, so I'm pretty confident that it's something to do with the physical connection rather than the software (and it's the same in Linux, "sim not inserted", so unless there's something in the BIOS....). Unless there are further updates on this issue(?) then I'll contact support next week...

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
