Thinkpad X1 Yoga 1st gen (20FQCTO1WW) stuck at BIOS update for hours!

This is showing up since last couple of hours. Only change made was to update the latest BIOS update from Lenovo.

Pressing the power button makes 5 beeps (beep-beep, pause, beep-beep-beep) and nothing else happens.

Please help!

Hi hinabarun,

The BIOS file that has been flashed could be corrupted or buggy. You may try to hold the power button for seconds to power off. You may try to power on again. If it fails to boot, contact Tech Support.

Hello Peter,

Thanks for your reply, really appreciate it. The problem is, depressing the power button makes that beeping sound and nothing else happens even with prolonged press. As this is an internal battery there's even no way to remove the battery.

I guess there's a reset hole at the back of the laptop (near the vent) but I am concerned that it might brick the system ( or the BIOS ). I have loads of data in my SSD and don't wanna risk them!

Thanks,
Nabarun

Hi hinabarun,

Since the BIOS update has failed, the probability of brick system board is high. Your data is stored in SSD, and they would only replace the system board, so most likely your data would still be intact after servicing. However, please make sure to have a backup for all the important data, as you wouldnt know when would your SSD or other drive may fail.

Thanks Peter,

I only hope the tech support center gives me a chance to back up my SSD before they do anything. But does this actually require a system board change? I was guessing they could just flash the BIOS with correct BIOS file somehow. Smiley Sad

Hi hinabarun,

Regarding this, you may need to call the Tech Support to clarify with their engineers.
