Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd GEN drive removal

2018-05-19, 17:58 PM

Greetings,

I am still looking to buy a new laptop/tablet for work. My employer requires that the system drive be removeable. I was trying to get a Surface Book 2 and they said no. It does not have a removeable drive; it is s security issue.

Can the system drive on this unit be removed?

If so, can someone point me in the direction of the maintenence manual?

Thank you in advance.

Sal

Hi,

(English) Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) - ThinkPad x1 Yoga

The drive certainly doesn't slide out the side per old-school ThinkPads.  The bottom cover has to come off.

They will not allow the driver to be soldered on the motherboard. It needs to be removeable.

I work for a healthcare company and they have implemented this as a security measure.

Thank you so much for the manual. It shows exactly how to change the drive.

My IT person actually called Lenovo and was told that the drive was soldered on and he would not order it for me.

I told him I would check myself and find the documentation. Actually, you found it, and then gave it to me.

They keep trying to force the HP 360 on me but I really do not like that laptop.

Thank you as this is just what I need.
