Thinkpad X1 Yoga 4th Gen 20QF intel graphics driver incompatible with insider builds 20170+

2020-07-31, 21:35 PM

Windows 10 Home Insider Preview

Version 2004

OS build 20180.1000

Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.19101.0.0

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8565U CPU @ 1.80GHz 1.99 GHz

All versions of the intel integrated graphics driver result in a gray screen/unusable display on insider preview builds 20170+. The intel driver was working fine on build 20161 and microsoft isn't helping/acknowledging the issue. The only way to fix this is to plug in an hdmi to my tv allowing the windows+p project menu to switch from "pc screen only" to "duplicate" which enables both my laptop and the tv display to work perfectly again. I then uninstall and delete the driver software for the intel driver and am stuck with the microsoft basic display adapter which works once the hdmi is unplugged but unfortunately disables all of the intel graphics features including night light, brightness control, and hdr among others.

Are engineers working on a fix/update for this incompatible driver (n2hdr29w.exe;

The latest DCH driver is incompatible as well:

Finally, Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA) also fails to install the appropriate driver results in the same bug as well.

I've been trying to fix this for 2 weeks now. Any help, workarounds, or reports of this happening to others with a similar setup would be extremely helpful. Thanks.
