Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen.6 does not detect Universal Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock

2021-09-09, 22:01 PM

Hey all,

I'm a bit frustrated now that I tried connecting the new Thunderbolt 4 dock with my Yoga.
While I know that there have been lots of issues with Lenovo and Thunderbolt, I expected this to eventually come to an end at some point.

However, maybe someone has any idea what to try with the observed behaviour:
When I plug-in the dock, nothing is detected, neither in the Device Manager (Thunderbolt Controller), nor in the Thunderbolt Control Center.
Windows shows a push notification that a "slow loading device" has been plugged-in, but the original should better be used.

Some background on the system:
- Yoga does have all Windows and Vantage Updates
- Dock is powered and booted (green status LED)

- already tried resetting the Control Center app

There is this post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Updated-Critical-Intel-Thunderbolt-Software-and-Firmware-Updates-ThinkPad/m-p/4519763
However, this patch is not listed for the X1 Yoga Gen.6

If anyone has any idea how to get this running, be promised my eternal gratitude.
Cheers
Alex

Which Thunderbolt 4 dock is this? Whichever one it is, is the laptop plugged in to the host connect port? There are 3 USB-C connectors on these docks, and only one of them is the correct one to plug the computer in to. It is the one on the back next to the dock slim-tip power supply connector. Hope this helps!

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Yes, I'm using the port in the inset rectangle in the back of the dock as shown in the user manual.

The dock is a 40B00135EU.

Ok. What OS are you using? Sometimes you have to approve Thunderbolt devices in the management software, before they will operate.

Well turns out this was a lie and I'm just dumb and plugged it into the other USB-C port in the back ...

Sorry for the fuzz, but thanks for the help :-)Thread can be closed.
