I have updated Win10 to my Thinkpad X201. It is quite old win10 from 2016 or so. The problem is that VGA output (and Funktion-F7 keyboard combination for switching between external and internal displays) do not work.
Display adapter driver in device manager is "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". I tried to install the original X201 display driver for windows 7 in compability mode but "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" will not change to "Intel HD Graphics" what is should be.
I have disabled windows 10 automatic updates because this mainly a computer for performing live music and I cannot risk windows update messing it. So all I need is a display driver which would fix VGA output. Any suggestions what to do?

I am not sure if this will work (I do not have a ThinkPad X201), but have you tried the following Intel Graphics Driver:
Name: Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.40]
Version: 22.214.171.12463 (Latest) Date: 3/19/2019
It could be that you need to go back to an earlier version of Windows (Windows 8.1 or Windows 7) in order to find compatible drivers for this 2010-era laptop.
