Thinkpad X230 RAM Upgrade Help

Hey Hi,

I am planning to upgrade my Thinkpad X230s memory to 8GB. I have few questions, it would be a great help if someone can help me.

1) Is it better to use 2x4GB configuration or 1x8GB? What are the advantages? (Does Thinkpad X230 support dual channel configuration?)

2) CPU-Z shows that my current RAM is running at 1.5 V. Can I put two 4GB RAM running at 1.35V? (Does Thinkpad X230 support DDR3L type memory?)

3) What would happen if I use two RAM having different CAS latency?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Thinkpad X230 RAM Upgrade Help

Hello, neerajmishra

1. with two modules installed, 2x4 GB, for instance, CPU will work in the dual channel mode. It means better performance

2. officially, according to the x230 specification, laptop supports 1.5 volt memory type. CPUs in the x230 support both, 1.35 and 1.5 v module types. Actually x230 works with both memory types. Also, it's able to work with 16 GB (2x8 GB) installed. Main requiremet - do not mix different memory types, use 1.5 or 1.35 modules at the moment.

3. requirement is the same as above - do not mix different memory types

x220 • Gobi 2000 3g | hdd, msata ssd, wwan, wifi, gps -- unique hand-made config
ThinkPad 25 Special Anniversary Edition. #retro. Signed by D.Hill
T470p | X1 Carbon Gen3 | Miix 2 10" | Yoga Tablet 2-1050F (Android) + BT Keyboard
ThinkPad Stack • 2.4/5 Wireless Router, HDD 1 TB, BT Speaker, Power Bank, Mobile Projector

Do it well, worse becomes itself
