My Thinkpad X240 only comes with an external battery pack, no internal. I usually power down my laptop at the end of the day. The following day it won't power on. I have to remove and re-insert back the battery pack before it turns on.
If I power down and leave the laptop for 2hrs it will power up without me having to remove and re-insert back the battery pack. But if I leave the laptop powered down for more than 3hrs I have to do the process to turn it back on.
The battery charges normally, I usually get 4hrs out of the 6 cell pack.
I ran the Lenovo Solution Center Comprehensive Tests, no errors found. I also did the rest button but it won't power on without going thru the process of battery removal.

Is it Still under warranty, if yes, call support.
If not, look in the event viewer and see if there is some device throwing a message at power-off
