Thinkpad X260: No HDMI sound device after updating to Windows 10 Creators Update

Two weeks ago I did a fresh install of Windows 10 Creators Update and I noticed, that I am missing HDMI sound device. Everythings worked fine on Windows 10 Anniversary Update version. I did a clean install, not an update. I have all drivers up-to-date. I also used Lenovo System Update to check, if there is any new drivers available. Still no HDMI sound device in Windows device manager. Anyone encountered this kind of problem? My Thinkpad X260 works like a charm on Windows 10 CU except this issue. Thank you

Re: Thinkpad X260: No HDMI sound device after updating to Windows 10 Creators Update

Hi m1lhaus,

1. Have you tried to download and install the Intel HD Graphics Driver from Intel website?

2. Use this guide to bypass Intel driver validation while installing the graphics driver.

Re: Thinkpad X260: No HDMI sound device after updating to Windows 10 Creators Update

Hi Peter,

thank you for this bypass manuall you posted here. It will come handy. Anyway I updated the Intel drivers to the latest version available. After that I updated also Intel HD Audio component the the latest version from Intel ZIP archive. I also tried older driver which comes with the package (6.16 and 10.22). Still, no luck. So the HW component seems to be installed but system refuses to recognize this component as audio output. See attached image.

Thank you for help,

Milan

PS: Yes, I've got this "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" options checked.

Re: Thinkpad X260: No HDMI sound device after updating to Windows 10 Creators Update

Hi m1lhaus,

You may have to wait for Microsoft to provide working drivers for Windows 10 Creator Updates, or to revert back to the previous build of Windows 10.

Re: Thinkpad X260: No HDMI sound device after updating to Windows 10 Creators Update

Hi,

I also tried latest drivers Lenovo published end of April. Still, no luck. It seems that I am the only one having this problem. I think the cause is that I did new / fresh install of Creators Update, not an update from previous version. I'll try to do a clean install with latest drivers sometime.

Re: Thinkpad X260: No HDMI sound device after updating to Windows 10 Creators Update

Just a quick update. It seems that Lenovo updated drivers released on end of the April did the trick. After updating nothing happened initially, but actually a week later, I connected TV via HDMI and then things started to happen. I heard familiar Windows "Installing new hardware" sound and HDMI sound adapter was there working. So be sure you have downloaded latest GPU and sound driver from Lenovo website!

And we're back...
