Thinkpad X270 upgrade ram to 16GB

This is the specification of ThinkPad X270 platform:

http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20X270/ThinkPad_X270_Platform_Specificatio...

My question is the platform can upgrade the ram to 16GB max / 2400MHz DDR4, which it seems maximum upgrade according to the pdf.

However, in crucial website

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/thinkpad-x270

it tells I can upgrade the ram to 16gb / 2666MHz DDR4, and I'm really confused if it is compatible with x270 or not.

Re: Thinkpad X270 upgrade ram to 16GB

I doubt if the Crucial website is trying to sell you something that is downward compatible with your X270. Sure, you can use their 2666MHz RAM on your X270, but the question is at which frequency would these RAMs run? It may well be throttled at the 2400MHz, if not even lower (the OEM Rams are one step down in terms of the RAM frequency, say, 2133MHz.)

Re: Thinkpad X270 upgrade ram to 16GB

Thank you for indicate that. It helps to clarify my question should be is it ok to install RAM with higher speed than CPU. And I found a lot of answer in Google. I think I will stick with 16gb 2133mhz as the fact that the cpu can normally run to 2133mhz.
