Thinkpad x270 False Advertising on Lenovo's site

2019-10-03, 2:15 AM

I ordered a Lenovo X270, and was surprised to find upon taking the bottom cover off that it came with a 2.5 inch SATA 256G SSD instead of a PCI-E SSD as was advertised on the website.

Specifically on the X270 product page:

It advertises PCI-E SSD. then when "view current models" is pressed the only model avaliable (Part Number:  20K6S0X900) advertises the storage as "256GB Solid State Drive", which is misleading at best, and an intentional act of fraud at worse.

I don't have the time to return the Laptop for a full refund, but called customer support twice (was hung up on the first time). Politely explained the situation (which was a little hard because they didn't really understand), asked for a partial refund to cover the cost of ordering a PCI-E NVME 2242 SSD.

Both times I notified them that Lenovo did an illegal thing and of my intent to file a complaint for false advertising with the FTC, the State's Attorney's General in NY State as well as my own state as well as the Better Business Bureau, and they were generally not very helpful at all.

I am hoping that Lenovo corrects this false advertising on their site, and can issue a partial refund for my order to cover the cost of upgrading the machine to match what it was advertised as.

Hi ktmarx! Welcome to Lenovo Community. The storage depends on the country.

In USA, the storage for X270 is 256GB SATA SSD.

In the United Kingdom, the storage is Up to 1 TB PCIe Name SSD.

Hope this helps.
