Thinkpad x270 battery died after sleep

2019-07-03, 21:12 PM

Hello! I have encountered a problem with my x270. I've left my laptop asleep (suspend to ram) and disconnected from power for about 4 or 5 days.

Obviously this has drained the power from both batteries and I've lost all the data in RAM.
Unfortunately, my external battery stopped working after this.

My internal battery has charged since then and is working ok

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state
present:                 yes
capacity state:          ok
charging state:          charged
present rate:            0 mW
remaining capacity:      20270 mWh
present voltage:         12468 mV

My external battery doesn't charge.

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info
present:                 yes
design capacity:         23480 mWh

battery type:            LION
OEM info:                LGC

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state
present:                 yes
capacity state:          critical
charging state:          charged
present rate:            0 mW
remaining capacity:      0 mWh
present voltage:         10054 mV

Is there anything that I can do to recover the battery? I have tried powering down/up the laptop and leaving it turned off and plugged in over night. And moreover, will I kill the new battery when I forget my laptop asleep the next time?

PS. I am running gentoo linux if that matters
