Third X220. Keyboard not “clicky”

2018-02-06, 7:26 AM

Just receiver my third X220 from a MAR, recertified. I was going to give the second one to my wife. We've been typing on it (using it now, in fact) and it doesn't have the same "clicky" feeling as the first two. When I press the power button, it doesn't even feel like it's moving down.
I compared it with the other two -- it definitely feels "softer" typing on the one I just received it is softer/quieter(???) Thoughts? I also posted on the reddit Thinkpad page and people have mentioned that there were different keyboards for the X220 (Liteon, Chicony, Sunrex)

I heard that the Liteon keyboards are “clicky”. Truly not a fan of soft/mushy. Biggest reason I got another Thinkpad X220 instead of another laptop was the keyboard. I loved typing on my first two.

How can I switch keyboards? I actually (very sadly) dislike typing on it.

Re: Third X220. Keyboard not “clicky”

Good day and welcome to the community.

Keyboard removal and installation is fairly easy on the X220. Please see pages 67-69 of the hardware manual:

Hope this helps a bit.
Regards.
