Thunderbolt 3 Dock Audio Not Working Through Jack

Hi, I am using a Thinkpad X1 Carbon from 2017 with a Thunderbolt 3 Dock. I use Bose deskopt speakers through the audio jack. Everything was working smoothly, then suddenly the audio isn't working at all. Says my drivers are up to date. 

 

No idea what is wrong and not very savvy at all this. Thank you for any help. Much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum group discussion! 

 

 

You may want to check out this article https://support.lenovo.com/in/en/solutions/ht505867?CID=ww:lenovosocial:20x9m6 and try following the steps provided (go to the Headset/Microphone not working properly on dock audio port). In addition, make sure that the Thunderbolt 3 dock driver is update to date as well. Update us back with the outcome.

Thanks, I still cannot get it to work. And when I run the firmware update tool, the "start"
 button is greyed out and the exit button is the only thing I can press. The audio is coming out of the laptop, not the speakers connected to the dock. 

 

How do I update the USB C dock driver, if such a thing exists?

 

Many thanks. I'm really clueless on this stuff.

I had the exact same problem. Exact. Working then not. Did this and it worked.

I have the same problem.  I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (6th gen) laptop connected to an Intel Thunderbolt 3. I have Bose Companion 2 speakers connected to the Thunderbolt audio jack.  Until the most recent Windows 10 update the default sound audio was setup for the Thunderbolt 3 Dock and everything was working just fine.  After the most recent Windows 10 update I can only get sound from the Bose speakers when I plug them into the audio jack of the Thinkpad itself (so I know that the speakers are working just fine).  But when the speakers are plugged into the Thunderbolt 3 Dock, there is no sound from the speakers.  When I run the Windows 10 sound troubleshooting wizard and select the Thunderbolt 3 Dock USB Audio device for the speakers I get the following message:  "The device does not appear to be plugged in.  Check the connection, plug in the device, then click next".  It is of course plugged in securely.

 

I have run the latest driver updates and firmware updates for the Intel Thunderbolt 3 per the Lenovo Support (website) per your recommendation but it did not fix the problem.

My configuration and experience are exactly the same as described by CafeBusy, except that the dock is a ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 dock.

 

ChrisE_Lenovo: There is nothing about dock audio in that support article -- perhaps the article has changed. Anyway, my computer is entirely up-to-date according to Lenovo Vantage.

 

208Engineerd: Not sure how a driver for Intel NUC is relevant to this problem. I don't think there are any Intel products involved here.

 

yeungsprite: This looks promising, but I hesitate to apply an update that is for "USB Audio". The audio through the USB port on the TBT 3 dock works fine. The problem is only with the 3.5mm audio jack on the TBT dock itself. Also, the driver installed on my TP is version 1.31.38.50, but the Lenovo download page offers 6.3.9600.2245. Looks like apples and oranges to me.

 

This clearly is a recent problem, probably triggered by a Windows Update. Any other ideas? Thank you.

Surprisingly, a firmware update to the dock resolved the problem for me.

Docks, Port Replicator, Ultrabase - Reference Guide

My dock is model 40AC; your mileage may vary.

Works like a charm.  I downloaded and ran the tool, it said

 

Checking current Dock FW version

Dock Name = ThinkPad TBT3 AR Dock

MAC address = 00-50-B6-B9-79-2E

Tbt3_Pd FW version = C33_13801S5   [Need upgrade to C44_13807S6  ]

MCU FW version = E129

DpHub FW version = 3.12.005     [Need upgrade to 3.13.005    ]

Audio FW version = 0800         [Need upgrade to 0087        ]

 

Do the update and reload. My audio device comes back (it had disappeared) and now I have sound again. 

 

Interesting note - the lenovo vantage tool didn't detect that teh dock firmware was out of date.
