Thunderbolt 3 Dock briefly disconnects from X1 yoga 3rd Gen on a daily basis

2018-04-26, 10:41 AM

I have a Thunderbolt 3 Dock connected to an X1 Yoga 3rd Gen laptop and daily the dock will briefly disconnect from the laptop. When this happens the two external monitors (DP connected) go blank and I can see that the LAN connection on the Dock drops off and onto Wifi.

This is happening to two different laptops and docks of the same model.

All the latest patchs, software, firmware and bios are installed.

Win 10 (1607)

X1 Yoga 3rd Gen (20LE) Bios: 1.12

Thunderbolt Controller:

Thunderbolt firmware: 407.06.12

ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock Driver: 10011

Nothing seems to resolve it.

I have the laptop and dock on a UPS and the dock is using the correct power supply, plus I'm using the supplied USB 3 cable (0.5m) which is in the back slot on the dock and correct power slot on the laptop.

Any ideas to resolve.

(We will be deploying 100 of these in our office and need a resolution before we can proceed).

Did you find a fix? We are in the beta test and experiencing this same issue. We are considering using the other dock as it does not disconnect. We will be deploying about 600 laptops.

Hi all,

Do we already know how to solve this issue?

In my case it is only disconnecting devices attached to the docking station (USB, LAN), and connected monitors work just fine. Just reinstalled (total reinstallation from the scratch) my laptop (20JE) and with this new installation the problem persists: disconnects after couple minutes and to get connected I need to restart the laptop, but it again disconnects (all over around) – at least the additional monitors work.

Beside just noticed that the docking station became strangely noisy, like there was a fan making this noise. When laptop is idle I can hear the docking station. Is there a fan to generate such noise?
