Re: Thunderbolt 3 dock will not charge X1 Carbon 5th Gen

Am not sure or the year of your model and what dock you use but, So far i can see the X380 Yoga can be charge from usb-c cable but will take a while to charge.
If your dock have more than 1 usb-c slot try to move it to another slot till they start to charge. If that not work try to go in your bios and see if the option for charging from usb-c slot are active then if that still not work. Consider to use the standard charger adaptor

Re: Thunderbolt 3 dock will not charge X1 Carbon 5th Gen

Hey all. I have:

X1 C5 (BIOS 1.34)
TB3 dock
Windows 10 x64 Pro

Had all the same issues described in the forums.
No USB at all, no charging, no Ethernet working on the dock.
Only thing working out of the box was video.

After some playing, everything is working great now!

Here are the steps I took:

- unplug the dock from the pc
- install the Lenovo Windows driver for the dock (V10014)
- shutdown
- change BIOS > Config Menu > Display > Total Graphics Memory from 512 MB to 256 MB
- change BIOS > Config Menu > Thunderbolt(TM) 3 > Security level > User Authorization
- start Windows
- plug in the dock to the pc

- accept new device installs from Windows and the Thunderbolt utility, chose always accept

At this point the USB and Ethernet (and video) were all working.
Battery indicator in system tray showing (plugged in - NOT charging)

- update the dock to the latest firmware (V10012)
- shutdown
- unplug the dock from the pc
- change BIOS > Config Menu > Power > Disable Built-in Battery
- after computer shuts down, plug in the dock to the pc

Disabling the battery setting with the dock plugged did not work.

Yes, the memory shared to your internal video is now 256MB, not 512MB.
The Security level setting in the BIOS is locked if you leave this setting at 512MB.

No, the computer will not charge from the front TB port on the dock.

This was not nearly as straight forward as I hoped.
