Tips for users of ThinkPad x41

[ Edited ]
I had some problems after formatting the hard drive of the ThinkPad X41.
Here is my experience how to solve these problems.
Maybe it will be useful to somebody.

1. If you have to re-install your Windows connect the CD (DVD) USB drive
to your computer (to the USB port).
2. You have to set BIOS to Boot from this CD (DVD) drive. To get the IBM BIOS Setup Utility, pls:
2.1. When you switch on your computer press the blue button “ACCESS IBM”
2.2.  Or press the F12 button.

In the section “IBM BIOS Setup Utility”
-STARTUP (enter)
-BOOT (enter)
-BOOT Priority order (enter)
-With the F6 and F5 keys move USB CD0
to the top of the order
- Press F10 (SAVE and EXIT)

Place your CD with your Windows System in the CD (DVD) drive
and follow instructions to format your hard drive and re-install the Windows System.
Here are some advice how to format your hard drive:

After installing Windows System you can re-new it connecting to the IBM site.
During the rejuvenation I received the “Access IBM” package.

Then I re-installed ThinkVantage Productivity Center Pack by Lenovo
and got new updates.

I also got Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test (the program hddquicktest_setup_5.1.533200.exe)

Then I checked if all my devices worked properly.
For this, Click Start, click Settings, then click Control Panel,
click System, click Hardware, click Device Manager.

If you notice that the Device Manager has some yellow questions marked next to the devices it means that they don’t work properly.
After installing all new updates with ThinkVantage Productivity Center Pack
I had only one yellow question.Multimedia Audio Controller?
in the section OTHER DEVICES.
And there weren't any sounds from ThinkPad X41.
“Sound and Audio Devices Property” section said
Volume: No audio deviceSounds:
Window DefaultAudio: all grey
Voice: all grey
Hardware: Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers,
Media Control Devices, Legacy Video Capture Devices,
Video Codecs – all them work properly.

The problem was solved after I had correctly installed SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio program
(IBM ThinkPad X41 Audio Driver

“Correctly” means that after extracted this package onto my hard drive
I had to type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK.

Good Luck ! And many thanks to MarkATL
