Re: Trackpoint Drifting X1 Carbon gen 6

"Doesn't feel like a software issue and I believe it's hardware or firmware issue."

Well we know from the Trackpoint updates, Lenovo specifically applied fixes for "drift" so they KNOW there is something going on with these either SW, HW or FW or all.

I still need a fix for the drifting on my X1C6 as well. I have applied all the latest firmware and drivers but still get the drifting several times a day. It's a shame for a 2K+ laptop that this is still happening.

I've had this issue ongoing. Lenovo X1 Carbon, 7th gen. This isn't just a 6th gen issue.

Three onsite service requests - replaced the keyboard, touchpoint, motherboard.
Reinstalled OS two times per support
Two separate instances of shipping the laptop to the service depot to have them "fix it", reinstalling everything after each

Same problem.

They replaced the laptop with another unopened 7th gen x1 carbon, within a few days I got the same issue.

They were going to switch me over to the Yoga and now I'm reading that folks are getting the same issue there as well. UGH.

I don't think they know how to fix this issue.

Hello and welcome to the Community,

That's interesting and I'd like to ensure we get your original system to engineering, could you post your case numbers please; i should then be able to track the system down but might need a little more information in which case I hope you won't mind if I reach out again.

Thanks in advance

Andy

I dont mean to doubt your credibility, but we dont know who is who here, and if one has fully understood the issue which does not involve the normal recalibration. I insist since this is quite important.

OK, I think the issue is definitely heat related. My X1C gen 6 was doing some hard labour of 60-70% CPU and I could hear the fan spin up and felt the hot air coming out. At excactly the same time my mouse pointer started to drift like crazy. It would recalibrate after a few seconds and then immediately after it would start drifting again in some other direction. The system was completely unusable.

As soon as the job was done and things started to cool down, the issue resolved itself.

It would be really nice to have kind of response from Lenovo. I think I'm on my 13th Thinkpad and as I have mentioned before, I thought we had delt with this issue 4-5 generations ago.

I agree.  It feels power + thermal related.  I even took some measurements a while back.  We separated this discussion because it's on the X1E1 and not the C6 but same issues being reported.  See thread below.  Peace.

I have an E590 with the same problem, randomly my trackpoint starts drifting, I can't control any other devices that behave like a mouse unless I push the trackpoint to cancel the drift (if I press hard enough it stands still and then everything except the trackpoint works).

There is also no scrolling while it drifts..

For me, it is definitely not heat-related as I had it while running at max performance as well as after my laptop just turned on.

I found  in the last 6 months with my x1e1 that hitting the Fn key + SpaceBar to turn on the keyboard illumination many times haults the drifting instantly-but not always.   I continue to see more drifting under heavy use of the TP and at typically more when it's been closed and gotten warm.  At some point I'll sell the x1e1 and try the x1e2 as it uses a different manufacturer for the TP.

id also sent in the unit under warranty and had it replaced- no change.   Frustrated still.   There's a separate thread on this for fhe x1e1 as well.  Peace.
