I have a X1 Carbon 3rd Gen. I use a Sennheiser USB 163D Gaming headset which includes the soundcard as part of the USB cable (the headphones plug into the soundcard which plug into the USB port). I've had this USB headset for almost three years. It worked perfectly with my last Thinkpad using Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit). I could use Skype, Fonality, and any other software that required a mic. Now that I upgraded to the X1 using Windows 8.1, the mic doesn't work with Fonality, and Skype.
I've checked all options within the applications to ensure it's using the Sennheiser headset and microphone and everything seems to work, but the recepients of my calls can't hear me. A Skype test call doesn't record anything. However, if I configure Skype (and GoToMeeting and Fonality) to use the Realtek High Definition Audio microphone instead of the Sennheiser 3D G4ME1 device receipients can hear me.
Does any know why this is the case?
