Update to X61 Series (12.1 4:3 Aspect)

2008-03-10, 15:13 PM
There is an individual (user: caramel) in another Thinkpad forum that is claiming to be an engineer at Lenovo: Engineer responsible for X series product can support you. He was deemed legit by the forum moderators.

Several days ago, he has stated the following:

"in coming days, the KB will be re-freshed for X-series, Thinkpad shows his fire-new. all will love it more."

You can tell his English is not very good - apparently caramel is from Shanghai.

Is there any truth to caramel's statement? In general, will there still be a 12.1" LCD with the 4:3 aspect in the X-series line up? I love the standard 12.1 screen and would be very disappointed if it will not be offered with the Centrino 2 update in June.

I have heard rumors and seen a photo of an upcoming Thinkpad X200 with 12.1 widescreen. Will there be a X200 12.1 with the 4:3 aspect screen (kind of like the T61 being offered in 14.1 wide and standard screen options)?

Any details, especially from a Lenovo representative would be very much appreciated.

It's unlikely that you'll get a comment from Lenovo employees here on speculations about unannounced products.

Thanks nonny. I knew it was a long shot. I'm just so on the fence. I want to wait until June to buy an X-series with the Centrino-2 update (Displayport, 3x faster Intel graphics, WiMax, etc) but I'm afraid that they will just drop the 12.1 4:3 screen in favor of the industry standard widescreen (like they did with the 15.0" standard screen for the T series). Does anyone have some insight on this?

IMO, the shape of the X series future is probably evident in the X300..... you can draw you own conclusions as to where that might lead over time.

Cheers,

well usually before an official launch there is always a sale going on... where Lenovo would try to get rid of old products..... so for a brief  time, you would probably get to either buy the old model and new model.... after that they usually would get rid of all the old products... the only way to get the old product would be to get it shipped from overseas... as X300 was launched in Australia only recently....
