[Urgent] X220 Thinkpad RAM UPGRADE 1x2GB 1rx8 1333 + 1x4GB 2rx8 1333 DDR3

Hi,

I am using X220 i5 provided by office with 64 bit windows 7 enterprise edition.

it has been provided with one RAM 4GB 2rx8 1333.

I have a spare one RAM 2GB 1rx8 1333

after surfing online found that there will be some voltage diffrences & BIOS setup as well and suggested to contact manafacturer to ensure correct matching

Questions:

1) can i use  4GB 2rx8 1333 + 2GB 1rx8 1333 in my X220 i5?

2) what are the pros & cons of this updation

3) do i need to mention any more info for answering above Question

4) what is the appx % of performance +/- if i am able to increase the ram to 6GB

Re: [Urgent] X220 Thinkpad RAM UPGRADE 1x2GB 1rx8 1333 + 1x4GB 2rx8 1333 DDR3

Hi urkiran1982 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per technical specifications  :

  • 8GB max / PC3-10600 1333MHz DDR3
  • Base sizes: 1GB, 2GB, 4GB
  • Non-parity
  • Dual-channel capable
  • Two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets

So adding your 2GB 1rx8 1333 to current 4GB =6GB would help having more resources running at the same time specially on virtual applications and multiple browsers . It would be an advantage to take max 8GB (can even run to 16 GB /2x 8gb ) . Hardware manual for reference (page65) and fru list do not limit you haveing an OEM brand as it may be different as long as the same specification (do not require low voltagewith DDR3L  as it specs to regular 1.5v DDR3 ) .
