Vantage Synaptics Plugin cannot communicate with driver

2020-04-03, 21:54 PM

I have a X395 and the Vantage plugin wants to talk to the synaptics device. I have ELAN (not synaptics) drivers installed.  I deleted the plugin but it gets reinstalled. Any ideas to get rid of this reapearing error?

This message appears to be coming from a Synaptics driver or utility, not from Vantage or the plugin.  When did this start happening?  Are you running the Lenovo factory preload or is it your own Windows 10 installation?

Try this:

  1. open a command prompt
  2. enter this command:  set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
  3. enter this command:  devmgmt.msc
  4. In Device Manager -> View menu, select "Show Hidden Devices"
  5. Look through the different categories for some hidden Synaptics mouse device, especially check "Human Interface Devices", "Mice and other pointing devices", and "System Devices".  If you find anything like this, uninstall it.

Thanks for the reply. I rechecked and found no traces of the Synaptics driver. The Windows (win10 pro) installation came preinstalled from the dealer, which is definitively part of the problem

It is definitively the vantage plugin. I traced the window owner with the procexp and it gave me the path to the plugin.  If I delete the plugin popups disappear (sorry if I cannot remember the name of the exe: will trace it the next time it pops up again). But as vantage updates itself the problem reappears...

Hi, I was wondering whether the issue has been solved in the mean time?

hi

I guess the issue caused by Synaptics Driver error and the error window will pop up when HeartbeatMetrics.exe was invoked.
1, The perfect solution is recommend user to install correct version of Synaptics Driver.

2, the following is a workaround if #1 does not work:
1), set this file attribute to "Read-only" (right-click the file --> select "Properties" --> check "Read-only" --> press "OK").
      C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\ImController\ImControllerSubscription.xml
2), then remove the following files:
                C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\ImController\Plugins\LenovoBatteryGaugePackage\x64\HeartbeatMetrics.exe
                C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\ImController\Plugins\LenovoBatteryGaugePackage\x86\HeartbeatMetrics.exe
