Re: Video Stutter Playing youtube videos at 50fps (X1 EXTREME)

The video stutters and skip frames when playing 50fps videos (1080p or 4k) on youtube LENOVO X1 EXTREME with 4k monitor. I have an external 4k monitor as well.

I'm using google chrome browser and tried playing firefox. Internet speed is not an issue here.

No issue when playing 30fps 4k video on youtube.

Go to chrome settings, and in the search field type in "Hardware Acceleration", and toggle it on if it wasn't already.

This tends to be an issue with CPU issue, with it not being able to keep up. If the previous thing doesn't work, right click the battery icon in the taskbar, go to power options, change plan settings, change advanced power settings, go to Processor Power Management, and make the minimum and maximum processor states 100%. See if that helps (if there's poor cooling it might get a bit toasty).

Let me know what happens.

Thanks for the tips. Tried both methods and video still stuttered and skip frames.

Are you trying with the external monitor plugged in? Try unplugging it. Did you try restarting?

The CPU should be able to handle it, but it might be getting more load than it can take. Is there a bunch of stuff eating away at it in the background?

Re: Video Stutter Playing youtube videos at 50fps (X1 EXTREME)

Yea, I tried with external monitor plugged in and unplugged.

CPU and internal graphics card isn't near full load at all. Without the video playing, background CPU load is low: <5%.

I just came across another topic with similar issue that suggested changing display setting in bios to discrete. It worked, no stuttering. But that means the graphics card is doing all the work now. I wonder how that would translate to battery life.

Re: Video Stutter Playing youtube videos at 50fps (X1 EXTREME)

The graphics card will likely take more power. The nice thing with the CPU doing it is that it's already drawing in power because it's running. Now you're also invoking the high performance GPU.

The issue with high resolution videos stuttering and such usually come from low-spec CPUs failing to render the video quickly. I'm slightly puzzled and I don't think I can figure out the issue without the laptop infront of me.

Glad it at least worked out.

Do you have another solution that does not have to change bios to discrete graphic. I try this method and it works but i do not want to switch in the bios all the time to save battey life. my model 4k oled i7 9750h

Could it have something to do with different frame rates of the video and the monitor?

Enjoy 19 pages of discussion of a VERY related issue here -->

It started out as something related to second screen lag but turns out there are a lot of issues with Nvidia/Intel drivers!

I had this same issue. I went to Nvidia's settings and under  "Manage 3d Settings" changed the graphic processor that specific apps open with. Do this for your internet browser, that way you don't have to keep your graphics card on all the time.
