WVA display - what does it mean?

2020-08-13, 14:46 PM

Hello!

Searching for an X1 found all of them have WVA display. They used to be IPS. What does WVA mean? Is it a kind of IPS, TN, PVA/MVA or anything else? If someone has used an X1 with the WVA how is it comparing to the IPS?

Thank you.

The panels have not changed. The term WVA means "Wide Viewing Angle" and was used temporarily instead of IPS. Lenovo is in the process of reverting back to using the term IPS. If it was IPS before it is IPS now. X1C8, X1C7, X1Y5, X1Y4, etc... panels are still IPS.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

VA means vertical alignment of liquid crystal molecules, it is a new liquid crystal technology.  The advantage is dark is more darker, while white is more whiter.

Most majot LCD manufacturers are switching from IPS to VA technology since year 2019. IPS screen will be disappearing very quickly.

This is about PVA (patterned vertical alignment)/MVA (multi-domain vertical alignment). The technology is not new, I have a PVA display which is about 12 years. Google says WVA stands for Wide Viewing Angle. This name tells nothing about the technology and I wonder what type of display is Lenovo WVA.
