So I was hunting around for a good, padded sleeve to use for my x220. It is a little difficult because the size is kind of non-standard and I don't want a case that isn't fitting well and is either too small, or flopping around. I looked around on lenovo's website and saw theThinkPad 12W case
but the very first review was specific to the x220 and said:

WaterField Laptop SleeveCase:
I've had it for my T61. I'm going to get it for my x220 that I have received today. Superior material & quality. Custom snug fit for your laptop. A little pricey, but totally worth it for such an expensive laptop. Check it out! :]

I agree the Lenovo sleeve is awful. I got suckered into that one.
Although I'm not normally a big Targus fan I found a resonably priced sleeve that fits almost perfectly
Targus A7 Netbook Slipcase (for 12" Netbook)

I have this exact sleeve (51J0476) and it fits like a glove on my X220 Tablet with extended battery (6-cell).
The extended battery is mentioned in the description so if you have a 4-cell battery then you will have an inch or so of space.
Note: I'm not sure if the extended battery is the same on the non tablet X220, if it is I definitely recommend the sleeve.

I like to use bag from Crumpler (http://www.crumpler.com/). It doesn't look like working bag, and that's why I like it. I don't use a sleeve for my X220 but the Moderate Embarrassment fits well with my X220 (+some small space for something else)

I've not had much luck. Lenovo is no help.
I'm currently making do with Ativa Mobil-IT Slip Case from Office Depot, which works pretty well, except not enough room for all the items I want to carry. (Looks like this except smaller.)
Sumdex Classic Metrobrief Lite Computer Notebook Bag has the pockets I need, but is so big the X220 slops around inside. I'm thinking of solving the problem with some extra foam padding.

I use the CaseLogic 12" Netbook Attaché and the x220 fits like a glove, with room in the side pouches for a charger and various other items:
