What charger originally came with this X1 laptop?

2018-05-29, 18:51 PM

I'm trying to find out the original part for the charger for my Lenovo X1 Carbon i7 5500U model) which was been lost. The underside of the machine suggests either 45W or 65W, while on the box there is an entry "CPK UK Linecord45WAC", but I do not know if this refers to the 45W charger variant. I'm a bit confused if it does because I thought this machine had a 65W charger, and the cutout space for a charger inside the box seems to match the 65W size. Can anybody help?

According to ThinkPad X1 Carbon_3rd Gen Platform Specifications both 45W and 65W chargers will work but the latter will recharge the system faster.

Based on the  "CPK UK Linecord45WAC" on your box I'd agree that your system originally came with a 45W charger.

That model could have come with the 45 or 65 watt versions, and both would work as a replacement, with the 65 watt providing a slightly faster charge due to is higher Amperage rating..    You could probably find the charger locally, but they may be clones, so if you want the original Lenovo adapter, they are available at the links below)

Note:   There are two different types of chargers available, a slim charger and the standard sized brick.    The parts linked below are the standard brick sized.

Standard

Slim

In the UK, I believe you want the 3 pin line cord, which might not ship with the adapter, so you may need to purchase the power cord seperately.

Good Luck,

Thanks for your replies. So it could have shipped with a 65W charger even though the label says "CPK UK Linecord45WAC"?

I suppose it is possible, but I cannot say for sure, but I think that the CPK UK Lincord45WAC is just referring to the UK style power cord, and not the AC Adapter itself.

To see what actually shipped with your model, you should be able to go to https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/  Enter your serial number (don't post your S/N online), and then select "Parts and Accessories" from the blue band to see what parts shipped with your system.

Cheers.

On Parts and Accessories, the second one down is "New release Common Liteon  45W 3pin CMN modified AC Adapter FRU" with part number 45N0491. So I guess that means it was a 45W that this machine originally shipped with?

That would seem to be the case, but you can certainly go with a 65 watt if desired when purchasing a replacement, as the only difference is that the 65W model supports a 3.25 load vs. the 2.25 Amp load of the 45W model, so the 65W model will charge a wee bit faster.

The 45N0491 (Made by Liteon) is equivelant to OOHM615 (made by Chicony)

I had standard 45W and 65W.

Feel that 65W X 2 faster charging than the 45W.

Both of mine was non travel type.

The information in the link to PSREF that I provided in post #2 says the 45W brick takes 2.5 hours to charge an X1C3 too 100% while the 65W brick reduces the time only slightly to 2.3 hours.

With such a small difference in charging time, for travelling what's more important is size and weight. The specs in the links JDGillis provided indicate that the 45W unit is about 15% lighter than the 65W.
