What is the difference between anti-glare and anti-reflective, anti-smudge?

2021-03-20, 2:25 AM

I see the new gens either have anti-glare screens or anti-reflective, anti-smudge screens.

What is the difference?

Hello hytekj,

Greetings

Anti-glare treatment is especially to eliminate this viewing problem.

Glasses with anti-reflective lens coating has the ability to diffuse the reflected light and enhance your viewing experience.

When it comes to glare reduction, anti-glare is said to be more pocket-friendly than the anti-reflective coating.

Anti smudge lenses/panels have a special coating that protects it from fingerprints and smudges, making it a must-have for spectacle wearers.

Anti smudge lenses work by having a special coating placed on top of the lens which stops smudges and dirt from sticking to the surface.
Hope this helps

OK so Anti-glare and Anti-reflective set out to achieve the same thing? But anti-glare is less expensive? Which is more effective? Especially in outdoor use (or even near a window) when sunlight might be an issue?

That would be the anti glare.

Sorry for the late reply.

What we really need to know for our procurement is:

a) Is it a Matt Screen, or

b) Is it a Glass Screen

That's all we care about when we place our order.

Hope that ThinkPad/Lenovo would add back the "Matt" / "Glass" screen descriptions, because this has been causing unnecessary confusion during the past few years.

Out of curiosity, why does it matter?
