Where to get Gen 8

2020-10-11, 20:04 PM

Hi All,

I am trying to get a X1 Carbon Gen 8.  Couple of questions:

  1. https://www.costco.com/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-carbon-14%22-touchscreen-laptop---10th-gen-intel-core-i7-10510u---1080p-.product.100666458.htm
  2. Is the above link to the Costco x1 a Gen 8 or 7?  Seems like a good deal if Gen 8?
  3. I hear the Gen 7 is substantially similar.  I tried to shop around for a Gen 7 (assuming it would be cheaper, but when I spec out the Gen 7 from Lenovo website, it is pretty much the same price as the costco one.  Assuming the costco one is Gen 8, why would I go to a gen 7 that is maybe only a couple hundred dollars less but not as great spec wise.

Thanks!

PS I am using this computer for surfing the internet on my bed before I go to sleep, paying bills, etc.  Nothing heavy and definitely nothing work related.

I can't get your link to work but using the product number and searching Costco I come up with this:

https://www.costco.com/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-carbon-14-touchscreen-laptop-10th-gen-intel-core-i7-10510u-1080p.product.100666458.html

The full 20U9S04H00 MT-M doesn't come up on Lenovo's PSREF page but the 20U9 indicates it's a gen 8.

Thanks, Zoltan. I also presumed that the costco one is Gen 8 given the specs indicate it has Wifi 6, which does not come on the Gen 7. Thanks! Any other thoughts to where I can source a comparable Gen 7 would be much appreciated! As I mentioned, apples to apples it seems like I only save a couple hundred bucks by going to the Gen 7, so for me not a big deal to just get the latest and greatest! I have 90 days from Costco to ensure it does not have the heating issues that others have been talking about!

Might be worth checking the outlet.  I don't know what's there just now but given your use case  you might find something there that suits you at a considerable discount.
